Sculpting the Portrait in Clay

In this two-day sculpture workshop with artist Peter Zokosky, participants work from a live model and sculpt the human head in half scale. Emphasis is on exploring the forms that make up the human head and capturing the likeness of the individual model. Instructions, demonstrations, and gallery visits support the hands-on experience. Complements the exhibition Images of the Artist. Course fee $165 (includes materials and lunch each day). Open to 25 participants.

They extolled the pastoral in unrealistic, impassioned poems about nature and the seaside. Investigate the influence of Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, on the imagination of artists past and present. This two-part course begins at the Getty Villa with an examination of classical Aphrodite and the impact of her nude image in ancient art. The following week, trace the enduring influence of the goddess in the later visual arts at the Getty Center. Course fee $40; $30 students. Open to 30 participants
