Hi All,
I'm a mixed media sculptor at this point in thirty-two years of being
an exhibiting artist. I grew up in Marin county, California, in the
60's, in the midst of the arts and crafts revival (and the summers of
love.) As a child, my parents took me on a two year odyssey to
Europe, where I saw the works of Spanish artist Antonio Gaudi and was
transformed. As an eleven year old looking at the mixed media work
of this famous artist, I was swept away by his use of form and
color.
My mixed media work for the last ten years has included hand-dyed
cast paper, metals, paint, painted wood and other small media. I am
currently working with 3-D metal mesh torso's, embedded with layers
of colored cast paper, pierced with painted wood elements and
sometimes containing transparencies of black and white photographs.
I exhibit locally (Sacramento, CA) and regionally. As I have a day
job which I love (7th grade art and 7th grade social studies), I am
free to do whatever art I like and not care if it sells! The
evolution to that state-of-mind took about twenty years, but has been
an incredible luxury!
I had a beautiful 720 sq. ft. studio built on my property last summer
so that I could continue to sling wet paper around even in the dead
of winter! Right now, I am counting the weeks of school until I can
rev up and get back into my body of art full time.
