I have observed a couple of observations of what seems to spark creativity
in the kids.
1. Having the art gallery and art studio in one large room. Kids often go
look at details in the art and then go back to work in the art studio.
2. The recycling table – having a variety of different things for the kids
to go through and create with.
3. Having a safe no mistakes only unexpected results atmosphere (I’m dealing
with elementary children mostly)
4. Having basic cleaning supplies (safe/nontoxic) for cleaning up spills
etc. and expect the kids to clean up after themselves. I think this gives
them a feeling of power and control over their situation. (I keep a portable
paper towel holder, liquid soap, spray bottle with water, spray bottle with
vinegar out during class and I use baby oil for cleaning things like
crayons/oil pastels but don’t leave it out or it ends up on the floor. I put
in on paper towels for the kids and they clean the table/ then use vinegar
to clean up the residue.)

>.........On day one of my Why Man Creates class, before I make seating
charts or go over the course requirements, I give every student one of those
clips (I can't think of the name of them) - the ones with the black head on
them that you have to pull back the little handles to clip and release - and
ask them to, in ten minutes comes up for 20 other uses for the clip other
than holding paper. They are so perplexed that I am not following the
normal day one routine that it takes them eight minutes to even start
thinking about it.......

I find the idea of this thread fascinating. I would like to know how others
discuss "creativity" in their classrooms and other tips, tricks, ideas to
make kids more in tune with their creativity. Toodles.......
