One of my favorite college professors- Carolyn Parker- began her first day
of class by having everyone list as many uses for a brick (the kind with two
holes in them) as you can other than building. She listed all the uses on
the board. I like that it wasn't competitive. Then, she gave us a black dot
about the size of a coffee can lid cut out of construction paper. She gave
us twenty minutes (I think) to make "something" out of it. I made a hanging
basket with petunias using the bottom as the bottom. It was amazing to see
what others made.
What I loved about the way she taught is that I learned more about myself
that semester than any technique or drawing trick. Now that I think about
it, I don't know why I don't teach MORE like that. I'm really enjoying this
thread.

I find the idea of this thread fascinating. I would like to know how others
discuss "creativity" in their classrooms and other tips, tricks, ideas to
make kids more in tune with their creativity. Toodles.......
