now that youall have mentioned paper clips - my first job out of grad
school was working at a State Hist. Soc. museum located at an old publishing
company - we had a typewriter collection and a large office supplies
collection roughly from the 1890's to the 1960's. Retired secretaries loved
it. One of my favorite parts was the "history of paper clip" case. There
are stylish new clips in the Flax catalog that look just like one of the
first clip designs, the simple flat circular spiral.

If you have the right kind of wire, paper clips could be a fun design
    project! "Invent a paper clip".
