Marsha,
I've been glazing and faux finishing all of the drab gray walls in my
house. Since gray is pretty neutral, I was able to glaze over them with
pretty much any color. You may want to think of a shade near the same family
of peach. I suggest go to the paint store and get a quart or gallon of miss
tints for cheap. $5.00 for a gallon or 1 or 2 dollars for a quart. I used
"FLOETROL" latex paint conditioner. You are supposed to mix it 1 part
floetrol and 1 part paint, but I mixed it about 2 parts paint, 1 part
floetrol and some water to thin it. A quart will go a LONG way. Almost as
far as a gallon of straight paint. The beauty of it is you don't have to use
a paint brush. I wiped it on like I was just washing the walls. So simple
and quick results. I also went crazy with a feather duster and faux textured
the walls. I did these steps to my hall with hideously bright colors and
then toned it down with a Bit-o-honey colored wash (glaze) and it is
beautiful. Real rich and expensive.
For the tables; I would be tempted to experiment with one of the tables.
I suggest joint compound or FIXALL if you can find it. I would use a wide
putty knife and level it off. It will dry rock hard in 2 days. Then you can
sand it to make it the rest of the way smooth, then seal it with
polyurethane. It would be worth a try unless you want to go with trying to
strip it off with chemicals or replace the table top.
I will be off line for a few days and won't be available to answer any
questions. I will be interested to hear how your room turns out. Take care.
