I am a middle school art teacher and an avid supporter of the use of
technology in our field. I am also a traditionalist however in that I
believe students must practice traditional media before moving on to "art
through technology". I would like to begin a technology segment within the
art curriculum at the 8th grade level to introduce students to the world of
graphic arts. Our high school teacher however is against computers in the
art room and redirects his instructional focus to more traditional
applications of illustration. He is an excellent teacher who's students have
been awarded several thousands of dollars in scholarships to various
"prestigous" art colleges. Am I barking up the wrong tree by exposing 8th
graders to this exciting field of art -knowing that there will be no follow
through during their next 4 years of high school ?
Your thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated. ...Kathy
